Science Communication
Understanding of the science behind identifing missing persons can be influenced by the 'CSI effect' (near-infallibility of forensic science as perceived by Hollywood content), and severely underestimates of all the different aspects, the challenges and the limitations. For a missing person to be identified, the loved ones have to understand the science and accept the identification.
If they do not, they will forever grieve their missing loved one.
All aspects of my science communication and advocacy, whether it be interviews, presentations, writing, or the creation of products, is fuelled by my love for the science and my dedication to bring all of the missing persons backed to their loved ones. I’m especially passionate about the intersection of biological sex, ethics, and the application of forensics in the humanitarian and human rights settings.

More than 500 bodies in morgues around Australia are unidentified missing persons. At the Skeletal Biology and Forensic Anthropology Research Laboratory (QUT), Kristy Winter and the laboratory use various imaging techniques to measure bones for the development of equations that can assist with identifying missing persons from their height. The task is daunting, but there something you can do to help. (May contain upsetting material)
